Three members of ClearWater Conservancy were recognized at ClearWater’s Annual Meeting on November 18 for their outstanding commitment and participation with the organization and in the community.

Rob Brooks was the recipient of the George Harvey Memorial Spring Creek Heritage Award, an honor given jointly by ClearWater Conservancy and the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited. This distinction pays tribute to Brooks’ unwavering commitment to teaching, research, and service for the protection of Millbrook Marsh. This award is given each year at the Spring Creek Day Family Festival.

The Donald Hamer Leadership Award, in honor of Don Hamer’s leadership legacy to ClearWater Conservancy, was presented to Jeff Sturniolo(see photo). President of ClearWater Conservancy in 2007 and 2008, Sturniolo has also been instrumental in several ClearWater initiatives over the years.

His thoughtful leadership carried over as past chair of the Spring Creek Watershed Community, past chair and key volunteer on the Watershed Cleanup Day, and most recently in his leadership in the conservation of the Spring Creek Canyon and participation on the committee to acquire a property within Halfmoon Wildlife Corridor. Sturniolo is also currently helping to establish a new Sporting Clays fundraiser for ClearWater.

The third recipient of the night was Holly Fritchman(see photo)who was given the Barbara Fisher Volunteer of the Year Award, a prize that began in 2005 to honor Barbara Fisher for her 25 years of dedicated and passionate service to ClearWater Conservancy. Fritchman received this honor in recognition of her dedicated volunteer service to ClearWater.

This year alone, she chaired the Spring Creek Day Family Festival, participated on the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center Advisory Committee, and continued her role as a co-chair of the For the Love of Art & Chocolate event. She is also a talented artist who donates paintings for ClearWater silent auctions.
Fritchman is an enthusiastic and loyal volunteer who helps out wherever there is a need at ClearWater Conservancy.

In addition, ClearWater Conservancy presented a Community Conservation Commendation to Sen. Jake Corman (R-Centre) for understanding the need for a completed Master Plan and conservation easement on the Spring Creek Canyon lands before the land is transferred, and taking action to allow it to happen.

The Board and staff of ClearWater Conservancy thanked all of the many volunteers throughout the organization whose contributions of time, talent, and expertise make possible all of the conservancy’s efforts to protect the places that matter most in central Pennsylvania.
