Research and practices for Pennsylvania’s animal agricultural operations and best protection of air and water quality are the focus of a weekly lunch hour program, Manure Du Jour: Serving Pennsylvania’s Best Practices on Animal Ag, Water-, and Air Quality, offered now through April 16.
 
The webinar features experts from Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences and Penn State Cooperative Extension, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission, USDA Agricultural Research Service, Michigan State University, and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Ombudsman program.
 
The following weekly offerings will address livestock-specific considerations, research findings, and practices, including--
 
-- February 5 - Water Quality - Manure Storage and Treatment (liquid);
 
-- February 12 - Water Quality - Manure Storage and Treatment (dry);
 
-- February 19 - Water Quality - Land Application;
 
-- February 26 - Water Quality - Stream Protection;
 
-- March 11 - Air Quality - The Issues;
 
-- March 18 - Air Quality - Nutrition and Ammonia Emissions;
 
-- March 25 - Air Quality - Nutrition and Greenhouse Gas Emissions;
 
-- April 2 - Air Quality - Housing and Barnyard;
 
-- April 9 - Air Quality - Mitigation Technologies; and
 
-- April 16 - Air Quality - Manure Storage, Treatment and Land Application.
 
Manure Du Jour is an educational program designed for practitioners in the County Conservation District- and Extension Offices, as well as for NRCS-, SCC-, and Department of Agriculture field personnel.
 
The webinar is also open to producers, agencies, agribusinesses, consultants, and others. An online question and answer period will take place each week following the speaker presentations, enabling the participants to interact with the featured experts.
 
 
To access the webinar, participants will need a high speed internet connection and computer. Those who do not have access are encouraged to contact their County Extension office.
 
The College of Agricultural Sciences and Cooperative Extension are joined in sponsorship of the Lunchtime Webinar Series by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (PA Office), State Conservation Commission, Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, and Pennsylvania Agricultural Ombudsman Program.
