Doc Fritchey Trout Unlimited Is Recipient Of Best PA Chapter Award
At the annual meeting of Trout Unlimited’s PA Council on October 3, the Doc Fritchey Chapter in Central Pennsylvania was honored to receive the Edward J. Urbas Award for Best Pennsylvania Chapter.

This award is bestowed annually on one of 52 TU chapters statewide whose efforts best exemplify the TU mission overall, from projects to outreach to conservation of coldwater resources.

The Doc Fritchey Chapter, chartered in 1971 as the Dauphin Chapter, was renamed more recently to honor the work of its first president, Dr. John A. “Doc” Fritchey, Jr. “Doc” was instrumental in spearheading a successful campaign during the 1970s to defeat commercialization and preserve the Stony Valley wilderness north of Harrisburg.

Since that time, the chapter has been honored repeatedly for its efforts, having won the Best PA Chapter Award previously in 2000, and various other awards for its stream restoration projects, newsletter and website.
