The not-for-profit group Riverlife recently announced the start of a campaign to secure the final $1 million needed to complete the historic renovation of Pittsburgh’s iconic Point State Park Fountain.

As the last piece in a $42 million master plan for the revitalization of Point State Park by Gov. Rendell, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Allegheny Conference on Community Development, and Riverlife, the newly renovated fountain is expected to be completed by 2011.

To encourage the fundraising efforts, the Colcom Foundation has pledged to match up to $1 million raised by the Friends of the Fountain campaign before November 24.

“We hope this incentive for doubling donations will enable Riverlife to announce, by Thanksgiving, that the fundraising campaign has been completed,” said Tim Inglis, President of Colcom Foundation. “We would be delighted to be called upon to pay the entire matching amount for one of Pittsburgh’s most prominent icons.”

Friends of the Fountain began as a partnership between DCNR, Riverlife, PNC Financial Services, The Richard King Mellon Foundation, The Heinz Endowments, and The Pittsburgh Foundation. To date, Pittsburgh businesses and corporations have contributed over $475,000 to renovate the fountain—the final piece in the Point State Park master plan.
