ING Receives Chester County Solid Waste Authority Green Business Award
The Chester County Board of Commissioners and the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, with the support of the Chester County Solid Waste Authority, recognized the 2009 Green Business Award recipients at this year’s Annual Dinner.

ING received an award for their distinguished recycling and waste reduction practices. Winners have consistently shown that their practices represent substantial cost savings as well as environmental benefits.

ING is a financial/insurance company with 500 employees located in West Whiteland Township. ING achieved an impressive 63 percent recycling rate in 2008 just by separating white and mixed office paper, corrugated cardboard, cans and bottles and saved money by reducing 5 day trash pickups to 3.

The “Orange goes Green” campaign goes above and beyond the requirements of Act 101.

Emphasis on sustainability has led them to purchase 100 percent wind power, fund reforestation, reduce paper, water and electricity usage and recycle batteries, CFL’s, plastic bags, cell phones, Christmas cards, toner cartridges and even sneakers and shoes.

Waste reduction practices such as eliminating disposable cups and Styrofoam, purchasing recycled paper products, installing light sensors and donating office supplies to schools makes them an aspiration.

ING is not satisfied and believes it can still find other ways to reduce their environmental footprint. Making that investment in global best practices actually lowers operating costs.
