The 2010 Keystone Coldwater Conference, hosted by the PA Council of Trout Unlimited, attracted nearly 300 people concerned about protecting and restoring watersheds throughout the state.

This year’s conference, titled “Responsible Energy Development: Protecting our Coldwater Resources” focused on providing attendees with current information about gas extraction, windmill development and coal mining.
Sessions focused on the potential environmental impacts with energy development and how grassroots groups can be involved to ensure that our coldwater ecosystems are protected.
The conference featured keynote presentations Dr. Charlie Hall of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and from Department of Conservation and Natural Resources  Acting Secretary John Quigley.
Twelve breakout sessions rounded out the morning and afternoon, with presentations from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Game Commission, National Trout Unlimited, Susquehanna River Basin Commission, Shoener Environmental, Department of Environmental Protection, Penn State Cooperative Extension, Portage Borough Municipal Authority, Bucknell University, Lock Haven University, Rettew and Associates, TerrAqua Resource Management and Range Resources.
Some conference participants also attended a pre-workshop session intended to provide conference participants with the basic understanding of wind development and the gas extraction process.  Presenters discussed exploration, planning, permitting, and construction of wind farms and Marcellus Shale natural gas wells.
Attendance at this year's conference show interest in watershed issues has not waned.  Nearly 300 people attended the 2008 Conference.
