The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee meets on June 21 to consider House Bill 1489 (George-D-Clearfield), another version of legislation which would impose a severance tax on natural gas production.

This would be the eighth bill introduced on the issue.  The others include:  House Bill 2438 (D.Evans-D-Philadelphia),  House Bill 2443 (Levdansky-D-Allegheny), House Bill 235 (D.Evans) (amended version), House Bill 2579 (Mirabito-D-Lycoming), Senate Bill 905 (Musto-D-Luzerne), Senate Bill 997 (Dinniman-D-Chester) and Senate Bill 1254 (Dinniman).
House Bill 1489 was originally reported out of the House Environmental Committee on June 23, 2009, considered in the House Appropriations Committee and then stayed on the House Calendar until November 10, 2009 when it was referred back to the Environmental Committee.
The Committee will meet in Room G-50 Irvis Building at the Call of the Chair.
Rep. Bud George serves as Majority Chair of the Committee and Rep. Scott Hutchinson (R-Venango) serves as Minority Chair.
