Centre County Offers Schools Free Recycling Presentations

The State College Spikes along with the Centre County Solid Waste Authority are currently offering a spring recycling program available to students in grades 1-8.
This program, titled Project I.K.E. which stands for Inspiring Kids to be Eco-friendly, has been designed to teach children about the green methods practiced at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and how students can properly recycle whether they are at a ball game, at school or at home.
Representatives from the State College Spikes and the Solid Waste Authority are available to offer this program to local schools.  Ike the Spike is also available, by request.  During the program, students will be given a packet, which when completed, can be redeemed for one free Bullpen Box ticket to a State College Spikes game this year.
In addition, the Spikes are offering Stadium Tours of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park which, when opened in 2006, was the world’s first L.E.E.D. (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified ballpark. These tours as part of Project I.K.E. will highlight the Spikes "green" practices.
These are free programs with a limited number of presentations and tours available.
To request a program, contact Amy Schirf, CCSWA, by sending email to: amyschirf@uplink.net or David Wells, State College Spikes, by sending email to: dwells@statecollegespikes.com.
