The Renew Growing Greener Coalition issued the following statement calling on the Governor and Legislature to celebrate Earth Day by committing to restore funding to protect Pennsylvania’s environment:

“For more than a decade, the state’s Growing Greener program has served to protect our water, keep our air clean, preserve our working farms, provide state and local outdoor recreation opportunities and protect wildlife habitat.  But unfortunately, under Governor Corbett’s proposed budget, this vital program is about to run dry.
“If the Governor and Legislature fail to act, countless projects to enhance recreation, promote conservation and protect our environment will be at risk.  Now is the time to address this risk due to the increased interest in natural gas extraction and the opportunity for the gas industry to reinvest in our shared environment.
“There is no better day than Earth Day for the Governor and Legislature to commit to restore funding for Growing Greener and to help ensure that future generations continue to have access to parks and trails, clean drinking water, fresh air and green open spaces.”
