180 Waste Trucks Put Out Of Service In May By State Police

Inspections of commercial waste haulers last month resulted in more than 500 traffic citations issued and 180 trucks and 18 drivers were placed out of service, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
“State police motor carrier enforcement teams worked with safety inspectors from the Department of Environmental Protection,” said Frank Noonan, State Police Commissioner. “The inspections were conducted at landfills and waste transfer stations across the state and focused on the identification of safety defects that can lead to crashes.”
Noonan said the teams conducted 1,298 inspections of waste haulers in May, resulting in 564 traffic citations and 1,408 written warnings. Unsafe brakes and improperly secured loads were among problems the inspection teams found.
“Personnel also weighed 3,546 waste trucks to determine their compliance with state vehicle weight restrictions, resulting in the issuance of 12 additional traffic citations,” Noonan said.
A list of actions by State Police Troop is available online.
