Abandoned Mine Reclamation Operation, Maintenance Seminar October 15

The Westmoreland  Conservation District, in partnership with Western Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation and Trout Unlimited, is hosting an  Operations and Maintenance Seminar on October 15 from  9 a.m. to Noon for watershed groups with abandoned mine drainage treatment  systems.
The seminar will provide a catalyst  for watershed associations to take the first steps in addressing long-term  OM&R needs by empowering attendees to initiate inventories of their  existing OM&R conditions and future needs. The seminar will also help watershed organizations identify possible  sources for OM&R funding and educate grassroots groups on lobbying  techniques to influence their elected officials.
Technical Assistance from Trout Unlimited  will provide the keynote speaker, Dr. Bob Hedin, for the seminar.  Other invited speakers include Amy Wolfe of  Trout Unlimited, Branden Diehl of the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds,  Pam Milavec of the Department of Environmental Protection, Cliff  Denholm of Stream Restoration Incorporated, and WPCAMR staff.
Seminar  topics will include: Information on the future of OM&R for passive  treatment systems with regard to funding streams; Alternative Funding Streams, including Quick Response Fund; Ready Tool-kit for Pop-up Funding Opportunities;  and a Legislative and Regulatory update.   During lunch, case study presentations will be given by local watershed  groups just like you.
If you have an AMD  treatment system that you are currently maintaining, please consider submitting  a five minute slide show about your project to workshop coordinator Mimi by sending email to: mimi@wcdpa.com or call 724-837-5271, ext. 211.
The seminar will be held at WCD's historic Barn headquarters at 218  Donohoe Road, Greensburg.  The cost is $15/person and includes all  workshop materials and lunch.  You can  register and pay online via a link.  Please register no later than October 11.
