Still Time For Nominations For 2012 River Of The Year

The PA Organization of Watersheds and Rivers and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is accepting nominations for the 2012 River Of The Year until October 27, but if you can't meet that deadline just send Josh Karns, POWR, an email:
Five nominees who have the best ideas about how to celebrate River of the Year will be selected, and then the public will vote to select the final winner. Voting will be conducted on the POWR website.
The River of the Year is an honor bestowed on a Pennsylvania waterway every year. It is celebrated with 12 months of activities and events to help people appreciate the beauty and wonder that are part of every river in Pennsylvania.
DCNR and the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers provide a $10,000 grant to partially cover the costs of these activities. Nominations should be made by a local organization that can manage this responsibility and coordinate all activities.
The voting process is a great way to draw attention to the work for rivers protection within local communities and statewide.
A Questions and Answers fact sheet about the nomination process is available online.  Nominations are also being accepted online.
