4 Environmental Groups Bail Out Of Renew Growing Greener Coalition

Four environmental groups Friday ended their association with the Renew Growing Greener Coalition because the Coalition failed to adopt their agenda which went beyond finding replacement funding for the Growing Greener Program, the purpose of the Coalition.
In a letter to other Coalition members, the groups-- PennFuture, PennEnvironment, the Sierra Club and 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania-- said they are in favor of "...securing renewed funding for Growing Greener, we cannot support specific legislation that also includes provisions that do not provide enough protection for our air, land, and water from the environmental impacts of drilling and that remove the ability of local governments to manage the impacts of drilling in their communities."
The reference is to a statement of support the Renew Growing Greener Coalition issued for the provision in House Bill 1950 (Ellis-R-Butler) making $1.2 billion available to the Growing Greener Program over 10 years through a transfer from DCNR's Oil and Gas Fund.
The Renew Growing Greener Coalition was specifically formed and funded to lobby for replacement funding for the Growing Greener Program, which has all but run out of funding.
The Coalition includes more than 140 government entities, including 32 counties, representing more than seven million Pennsylvanians, have passed resolutions calling on the Governor and legislature to restore and increase funding for Growing Greener.
It is the Commonwealth’s largest coalition of conservation, recreation and environmental organizations representing nearly 350 organizations and government entities.
