SRBC Approves Drilling Water Withdrawal Rules, Urges Funding For Flood Warning

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission held its quarterly business meeting Thursday in Wilkes-Barre and took final action water withdrawal regulations covering the drilling industry and urged the federal government not to cut funding for the Susquehanna Flood Warning System.

            SRBC also presented its 8th William Jeanes Award for Environmental Excellence to Mr. Bernie McGurl, Executive Director of the Lackawanna River Corridor Association, for his dedication to the protection and conservation of the Lackawanna River Watershed.
            A  a resolution was approved urging the federal government to provide $2.4 million for the Susquehanna Flood Forecast and Warning System and for the President to include $6.5 million in FY-13 budget to allow for certain Susquehanna basin stream gages to be funded from a national stream gage program
            The commissioners also denied one water withdrawal application, tabled one application and approved 22 water resources projects.  A list of individual actions taken is available online.
