DEP Energy Conservation Code Workshop March 7 In Delaware County

The Department of Environmental Protection invites code enforcement officials, builders, contractors and designers to a March 7 training workshop in Glen Mills, Delaware County, on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Best Western Concordville Hotel at 780 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and breakfast and lunch will be provided as part of the $40 registration fee.

The IECC is updated every three years by the International Code Council. In Pennsylvania, it is considered part of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC), according to Act 49.

The workshop will focus on energy code compliance for commercial building. Participants will learn about the commercial provisions and basic requirements of the IECC, data input into COMcheck software, and proper review of COMcheck compliance certificates. The staff from the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center are instructing the course.

Attendees will receive six UCC continuing education hours for completing the training.

Funding for the workshop is provided by the state through a U.S. Department of Energy State Energy Program grant.
