Environmental Professionals Honor Dirt And Gravel Roads Center, Cindy Dunn

The PA Association of Environmental Professionals held their Annual Conference titled The Power Within our Environment in State College, May 8 – 10 and awarded two Karl Mason Awards at the conference:

-- Cindy Adams Dunn, Deputy Secretary, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for her leadership in the Conservation Landscape Initiative and Growing Greener 2 campaign. 

-- Penn State Center for Dirt and Gravel Roads Studies- State College, Steve Bloser- Director; and  The Center specializes in education, outreach, and project oversight related to the environmentally sensitive maintenance of unpaved roads and trails.  PA has a network of 20,000+ miles of unpaved roads.

The Karl Mason Award for an individual was given to Karl Mason (1915-1966) was a sanitary engineer who  led the Bureau of Environmental Health during the 1950’s –the forerunner of the Department of Environmental Protection.  He was an innovative thinker for public heath and environmental issues years before the first Earth Day. 

The PAEP purpose is to promote environmental education, research, planning, assessment, review, and management through the formation and operation of a nonpolitical multidisciplinary professional society.
