Federal-Mogul in Boyertown Eliminates Lead Solder In Its Operations

The Federal-Mogul facility in Boyertown, Berks County has taken the initiative to eliminate the use of lead in their soldering processes as part of its participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Partnership for Environmental Priorities Program.

Federal-Mogul manufactures sealed beam headlights for the automotive domestic aftermarket, as well as specialty lamps for commercial, industrial, military, railroad, and aviation applications.

The company went from 13,000+ pounds of lead in 2002, to 8,700 pounds in 2003, to 350 pounds in 2004, to the ultimate goal of zero lead in 2005 and future years.
