McMichael Creek Sojourn In Monroe County Sept. 20

The Brodhead Watershed Association invites kayakers to a full day’s adventure of paddling on the McMichael Creek amid Stroud Township’s Greenway in Stroudsburg on September 20.

The day-long trip will include time to pause and consider the beauty and wildness of our native waters. Aquatic presentations including fly-fishing will be offered at local landmark “Slaughterhouse Bend” at lunch time.

“The sojourn is a great way experience the scenic beauty of the Poconos first hand, while appreciating the work that the BWA’s volunteer Streamwatchers do to keep the waters safe from pollution,” said event organizer and BWA board member Pat Kennedy.

The event honors the memory of one of the BWA’s most dedicated volunteers, the late Chris Perry.

The day-long trip includes:

-- 8:30 am - Registration, welcome, continental breakfast and mandatory safety training at the Clubhouse Café, Glenbrook Golf Course, Hickory Valley Road, Stroud Township

-- 9:30 am - Vehicle distribution and kayak set up

-- 10:00 am - Take off from put-in point in Hamilton Township. Interpretative sites along the downstream water trail

-- 11:30 am - Mid-way stop and optional take out at “Slaughterhouse” Bend. Lunch, Fly-fishing and other aquatic presentations, Stroud Township Greenway, above Glenbrook Golf Course on Hickory Valley Road, Stroud Township.

-- 3:00 pm - Optional take out spot at Kovarick Park above LaBar Village.

-- 4:00 pm - Take out on the lawn at ESSA in Stroudsburg, with refreshments.

Kayaks can be rented directly from Edge of the Woods Outfitters. Call 570-421-6681 to reserve yours.

The trip is dependent on weather and water levels in the creek. Paddlers of all skill levels are welcome.
