PRC, Allegheny CleanWays Host Wild & Scenic Film Festival Oct. 29 In Pittsburgh

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival – the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festival – will make a stop in Pittsburgh on October 29, as part of its nationwide tour to showcase environmental films that inspire action and will benefit two local nonprofit organizations: the  PA Resources Council and Allegheny CleanWays.

The evening of short films that showcase our earth’s natural wonders, feats of courage and amazing stories of individuals making changes to protect our global environment will take place at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty in Pittsburgh.

This year’s festival shines a timely spotlight on the global and local issues surrounding water as well as the need for a change in course of the ways we interact with all aspects of our environment.

Local videos will include PRC’s “Crying Steelers Fan” public service announcement that encouraged amateur filmmakers to create Pittsburgh-centric anti-litter PSAs this past summer.

“Pittsburgh is proud to host this amazing selection of films that open our eyes and hearts to fantastic experiences in remarkable places. These films document some of the many challenges facing communities around the globe just as they celebrate the actions of individuals in the fights to overcome them,” said PRC Regional Director Justin Stockdale.  “These films combine stellar filmmaking, beautiful cinematography and first-rate storytelling to inform and inspire individuals to take action.  The film fest will offer an opportunity for viewers to connect with local initiatives from PRC, Allegheny CleanWays and others to make a positive impact on western Pennsylvania's environment.”

Additional sponsors include: Conservation Consultants, Inc., Scenic Pittsburgh, Green Mountain Energy and eLoop LLC.

On October 29, doors will open at 6 p.m. with films beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Avenue, East Liberty Pittsburgh.  Tickets are $15 with all proceeds benefitting PA Resources Council and Allegheny CleanWays.

Admission includes light refreshments, a chance to win two tickets to Construction Junction’s 10th annual Big Pour and a separate raffle for more local prizes.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online through the PA Resources Council website or at the door on October 29.
