DEP Hearing On Westmoreland Tenaska Natural Gas Power Plant Air Permit Jan. 26

The Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public hearing on an Air Quality Plan Approval Application for the proposed Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners, LLC power plant in South Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County.

The public hearing will take place on January 26 at the Turkeytown South Huntington Township fire hall (Huntington Place), 90 Supervisor Drive, West Newton, PA 15089. The hearing will be preceded by an open question and answer session beginning at 6:00 p.m. The public hearing will start at 7:00 p.m.

The Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners, LLC Westmoreland Generating Station is a proposed natural gas fired combined cycle electrical generating plant having an approximate generating capacity of 1000 MW.

The Department of Environmental Protection issued an Air Quality Plan Approval PA-65-00990C to the company in April 2015 to construct and initially operate the plant.  However, the company received new emissions data from the manufacturer of the natural gas-fired steam turbine generators to be used at the facility.  That data indicated that the startup and shutdown emissions and the facility-wide potential to emit were reduced from the original emission estimates.

Tenaska’s plan approval application, the DEP’s review memorandum, the proposed plan approval, and other relevant information is available for review by any interested party at the DEP’s Southwest Regional Office, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

To request a review, please contact Phil Bouse at 412-442-4000.

Before the question and answer session gets underway, representatives from Tenaska and DEP will make brief informational presentations. Members of the public will have an opportunity to present testimony at the hearing on the intent to issue the Plan Approval.

Comments will be limited specifically to the application and conditions of Plan Approval. Those wishing to make comments should register with Community Relations Coordinator John Poister either by email to: jpoister@pa.gov or call 412-442-4203) by noon on January 26.  There will also be an opportunity to register at the door on the evening of the hearing.

Those unable to attend the hearing may submit written comments to the attention of Alexander Sandy, Department of Environmental Protection, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.  Please note on the envelope that you are comment on the Tenaska Plan Approval. PA-65-00990E.

The public comment period will end at the close of business on February 5.
