The Harrisburg International Airport Tuesday unveiled a new Direct Current Fast Charging Station, located in the Cell Phone parking lot that allows passengers and visitors to charge their electric vehicles.

HIA worked with Blink Network, a subsidiary of Car Charging Group, Inc. to install, operate, and manage the Blink DCFC station. The EV charging station has two charging ports and will be available for users 24/7.

Typically, a full charge at the Blink DCFC charging time takes approximately 30 minutes. The cost to use the station is 39 cents per kWh for Blink Members, which is free to enroll in, or 49 cents per kWh for guests.

The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority will receive 7percent of net revenues generated from the sale of the electric car charging services.

Blink Network was awarded a DEP Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant to install electric car charging stations throughout Pennsylvania.

CarCharging currently has over 5,000 public EV charging stations in 35 states, including EV charging stations along the PA turnpike at New Stanton, Bowmansville, and Elverson.

The Blink DCFC station at HIA will offer turnpike electric car drivers a charging location midway between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

“We are pleased to have worked with Blink Network to offer electric vehicle charging to our passengers, visitors, and general public,” said Tim Edwards, Executive Director of HIA and the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority. “Enabling drivers to charge their electric vehicles on site is another way HIA can provide an Altogether Better experience.”

The ribbon cutting was part of HIA’s Earth Week celebration. Other activities taking place include a landscaping project by the flagpoles and clean up days at Capital City Airport and HIA.
