Monroe Planning Commission Launches New Website, Contest To Promote Public Parks

The Monroe County Planning Commission has launched a new website to make it easier to find the 125 public parks and open space in the county.  To generate even more interest, the Commission is also accepting entries to a Blue-Rock Photo Contest.

The new website provides directions, amenities, trail conditions, website links and photos. A search box allows you to search for a site by location or by activity such as hiking, bicycling, boating or picnicking. The locator will tell you if the site has restrooms or is handicapped-accessible.

Before going out to one of Monroe County’s public parks, pick up a blue rock (or paint your own) at any of the county’s 20 municipal offices.

To enter the contest, take photos of your favorite park or trail with the blue rock and submit it to the Monroe County Park Locator Facebook page.

Contest prizes will be announced throughout the summer on the Facebook page.  The contest runs until Labor Day.

For more information, visit the Monroe County Park Locator website or call the Commission at 570-517-3100.
