DEP: July 14 Webinar On Pilot Mine Reclamation, Economic Development Program
Photo

The Department of Environmental Protection will hold a webinar on July 14 on its new, federally funded $30 million abandoned mine reclamation program which combines mine reclamation with economic revitalization opportunities.

Acting DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell and other DEP staff will outline the program during the webinar which begins at 9:30 a.m.

Acting Secretary McDonnell gave a presentation at the 2016 PA Abandoned Mine Reclamation Conference the end of June on the program that included a proposed project list.

The federal funding is part of the federal Office of Surface Mine Reclamation and Enforcement’s POWER+ Plan to clean up abandoned mine sites and discharges to provide additional economic development opportunities for communities.

A separate bill now pending in Congress would authorize the POWER+ Plan in statute.  The RECLAIM Act is sponsored by a number of coalfield members of Congress, including Matt Cartwright (D-PA).
