Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s local affiliates Keep Cambria County Beautiful, PA CleanWays of McKean County and Keep Washington County Beautiful held tire collections this spring, sponsored in part by the Department of Environmental Protection’s HHW/Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program.

The affiliates collected a combined total of 5,571 tires from local residents emphasizing the continued need for disposal options for scrap tires. All tires collected will be recycled into products such as mulch, turf, molded products and crumb rubber.

Keep Cambria County Beautiful also accepted 123 appliances for proper disposal.

“This program allows our affiliates to provide convenient, low cost collections for their residents for otherwise hard to dispose of items. The tires and appliances that are collected at these events won’t end up over the hill where they would be difficult and costly to remove,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep PA Beautiful.  “I applaud our affiliates for providing this annual service to their communities..”

Check the Keep PA Beautiful Calendar of Events page for events in your area or contact your local County affiliate for more information about proper disposal by going to KPB’s Affiliate Network webpage.
