DEP: July 12 Hearing On Proposed Natural Gas-Fired Power Plant In Washington County

The Department of Environmental Protection Thursday announced it will hold a public hearing July 12 on an Air Quality Plan Approval application for the proposed Robinson Power Company, LLC Beech Hollow Project.

The proposed natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant with a 1,000 MW generating capacity would be located adjacent to the Champion Processing Inc. waste coal pile in Robinson Township, Washington County.

Robinson Power applied for air quality plan approval in March 2016.

The hearing will be held on at the Fort Cherry Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium at 110 Fort Cherry Road, McDonald, PA 15057.

The hearing will be preceded by brief presentations by DEP and the applicant and an open question and answer session beginning at 6:00 p.m. The public hearing will start at 7:00 p.m..

Members of the public will have the opportunity to present testimony on the department’s intent to issue the Plan Approval. Comments must be limited specifically to the application and conditions of this application.

DEP requests that individuals wishing to testify at the hearing submit written notice to Lauren Fraley, Community Relations Coordinator by sending email to: lfraley@pa.gov, care of DEP’s Southwest Regional Office, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or by phone at 412-442-4203.

Each individual will have 5 minutes to testify and there will also be an opportunity to register on site on the evening of the hearing.

Individuals who cannot attend the hearing may submit written public comments to the attention of Alan Binder, Department of Environmental Protection, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or send comments to: abinder@pa.gov

Written testimony must include the commenter’s name, address, and phone number and reference the proposed Robinson Power Plan Approval (PA-63-00922D). Public comments will be accepted until July 22, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.

A copy of Robinson Power’s application, DEP’s technical review memo, and other relevant information is available for review at DEP’s Southwest Regional Office at 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

Appointments to review the application materials can be made by calling 412-442-4000. Documents will be available on DEP’s Southwest Regional Community Information webpage, or by visiting Heritage Public Library, 52 Fourth Street, McDonald, PA 15057.
