Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Thursday congratulated Albert M. Greenfield School in Philadelphia for being named State School Division Champion of the 2017 Recycle-Bowl by collecting 11,536 pounds of recyclables generated at the school, during this national competition.

“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful congratulates the students and faculty of Albert M. Greenfield School for their recycling efforts. The Recycle-Bowl competition provides a means to introduce or expand recycling programs within our schools and encourages students to recycle right 365 days a year whether they are at school, home or out in their communities,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “We are grateful to Keep America Beautiful for providing this resource to our local schools.”

The Albert M. Greenfield School was also designed a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School in 2013.  Click Here to watch a video of their greening efforts.

The 2017 Recycle-Bowl competition included 1,000 schools spanning 42 states and the District of Columbia. More than 550,000 students and teachers participated, striving to recycle as much as possible.

Recyclables recovered during the 2017 competition totaled 2 million pounds, which prevented the release of 2,800 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2E). This reduction in greenhouse gases is equivalent to the annual emissions from 600 passenger cars.

The list of the 2017 Recycle-Bowl division and statewide winners are on the Recycle-Bowl website, as well as descriptions of the national competition categories.
