The Department of Environmental Protection Friday announced its West Nile Virus Program will conduct a mosquito control operation to reduce high populations of mosquitoes on Monday, August 6 in Ligonier Borough and portions of Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County.  (Click Here for more.)

Truck-mounted, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray equipment will be utilized to spray DeltaGard, a reduced-risk pesticide by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) applied at a rate of 1.0 oz/acre.

This product is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. Due to treatment technique and risk classification of the active ingredient, the application is not expected to have any impact on people or pets.

The control work will begin late in the evening, between the hours of 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.
