On April 10, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service-PA recognized the more than 300 Pennsylvania Earth Team volunteers for their community conservation work in Pennsylvania as part of National Volunteer Week - April 7-13.

“Earth Team volunteers are important allies because their work allows us to put more conservation practices on the ground,” said State Conservationist, Denise Coleman. "Last year, 311 Pennsylvania volunteers dedicated 3,811 hours of their time to conservation work, equating to $93,649 of benefits to our customers and taxpayers in 2018."

Earth Team is a program that allows NRCS to stretch available resources by partnering volunteers with employees to provide a wide range of service to private landowners and the public.

These activities can include conservation technical assistance, office support, and generating awareness about conservation through community projects.

In today’s tight economy, volunteers can help agencies continue providing services with fewer employees.

Created in 1985, Earth Team offers many conservation opportunities to individuals over the age of 14 who are interested in giving their time to improve the nation’s natural resources.

Learn more by visiting the Pennsylvania Earth Team Program webpage or by contacting your local NRCS office to learn more about conservation needs in your area.
