Pennsylvania makes up more than one-third of the entire Chesapeake Bay Watershed, more than any other state. Over half of Pennsylvania’s land area-- 52 percent--  lies within the Bay Watershed in all or parts of 43 counties. The Susquehanna River provides 50 percent of the freshwater entering the Bay and the Pennsylvania portion of the Potomac River contributes an additional 2 percent.
