In celebration of environmental stewardship, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful worked with GIANT associate volunteers and the Friends of Johnston, Inc. to plant trees and flowers, mulch beds, create walkways and conduct additional improvements at Camel's Hump Farm on the Johnston Estate April 26 in Northampton County.

This is a continuation of projects initiated by GIANT’S Reduced Emissions Program, which was developed in partnership with GreenPrint Holdings Inc.

“Earth Day happens in our stores every day and through volunteer events like this,” said Ashley Flower, Manager External Communications and Community Relations, GIANT Food Stores. “GIANT wants to make sure we are staying true to our promise and helping to ensure a healthy planet for future generations and we are proud to work with organizations like Friends of Johnston and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful who share our commitment.”

Friends of Johnston, Inc. is an all-volunteer charitable nonprofit working to restore the historic 135-acre estate of Archibald Johnston, the first mayor of Bethlehem, as a Community Center for Nature Education Wellness and the Arts.

In addition to the Arbor Day improvement project, the group is working on a Community Garden, Permaculture Orchard, an Outdoor Classroom, and a 2-acre Enchanted Forest Arboretum.

“The Friends of Johnston are truly thankful for the all of the support of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and GIANT to help with the renovation of this beautiful estate for our community,” said Victoria Bastidas, president of The Friends of Johnston, Inc.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., has more than 25 years of experience in organizing volunteer-driven illegal dump clean-ups and beautification events and is continuing to partner with GIANT as part of the company’s Reduced Emissions Program, powered by GreenPrint Holdings Inc.

Through the Reduced Emissions Program, for every qualifying gallon of fuel purchased at GIANT/MARTIN’S fuel stations, GreenPrint will invest in carbon projects across the globe, which will offset up to 30 percent of the customer’s tailpipe carbon emissions.

In addition, GIANT associates will take part in various community improvement projects, organized by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and their local affiliates, such as tree plantings, greenspace enhancements, invasive species removal, butterfly gardens, trash cleanups, and more.

“We are proud to continue working with GIANT through the Reduced Emissions Program,” explains Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “GIANT has been a sponsor of our Great American Cleanup of PA for a number of years. We look forward to supporting GIANT as who want to engage directly in their communities through this partnership”
