Gov. Wolf Proclaims August 24-31 Local Waterways Appreciation Week (Let’s Cleanup & Protect While We’re At It!)

On August 5, Gov. Tom Wolf issued a proclamation recognizing the week of August 24 to 31 as Local Waterways Appreciation Week in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has approximately 85,000 miles of streams and rivers, connecting over 700,000 acres of lakes, bays, and wetlands. Our waters are a big part of what makes Pennsylvania the place we love to live, providing our drinking water, offering treasured recreation experiences, supporting our farms and businesses, growing our forests. Take the opportunity during the week of August 24-31 to show your appreciation for your favorite local waterway, whether it’s the stream in your neighborhood or Lake Erie or any of our mighty rivers, such as the Allegheny, Susquehanna, Delaware, or others. How Can You Participate? -- Share images of your favorite local waterway on social media using the hashtag #lovepawaters -- Get together with your members, family and friends to enjoy PA’s abundant water resources. -- Teach others about the value of clean water and ways to improve water quality in Pennsylvania. NOTE: State politicians must take the need to cleanup and protect our waterways seriously, especially since the right to clean water is guaranteed in the Environmental Rights Amendment to our state constitution.
