Friends Of Allegheny Wilderness: Tracy Ridge Mountain Biking On Hiking Trails Project Canceled In Allegheny National Forest
Photo

The Allegheny National Forest Tracy Ridge Wilderness Area Mountain Biking On Hiking Trails Project has been formally canceled by the U.S. Forest Service in Warren County, according to the Friends Of Allegheny Wilderness

The project was withdrawn in January of 2018 after sustained opposition from the Friends Of Allegheny Wilderness and its supporters, however, it had listed as on since since then.

"For everyone who participated in the public participation process, commenting in opposition to this harmful project, thank you! It was you who made this happen!" said FAW. "It is just these kinds of unrecognized, unappreciated heavy, heavy lifts that conservationists all across America must undertake all the time simply to keep our natural areas natural."

"We know that eternal vigilance will be necessary at the proposed Tracy Ridge Wilderness Area. Just wait until the next Forest Plan revision, there may well be all kinds of outlandish development ideas for Tracy Ridge floated — mountain biking and others,” said FAW.  “Who knows, golf courses, cabins in the woods, expansion of the Willow Bay developed recreation site into the proposed wilderness, etc. may all be suggested. We will have to redouble our efforts and fight like hell for Tracy Ridge again if and when that happens."

To advocate that the entire eminently-qualifying 9,705-acre Tracy Ridge area be designated as wilderness under the Wilderness Act of 1964, forever protecting it from all forms of development as part of America’s National Wilderness Preservation System, FAW urges you to please contact your elected officials in the U.S. Congress and ask them to introduce legislation making it so.
