PennFuture To Host Fmr Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard Oct. 22 In Harrisburg For A Discussion On His Book Less Oil Or More Caskets

On October 22, PennFuture will host an evening of dinner, drinks and discussion with former Indianapolis Mayor and retired Marine Greg Ballard, who will speak about his new book-- "Less Oil or More Caskets - The National Security Argument for Moving Away from Oil" -- that urges America to move away from a reliance on oil. The event will be moderated by climate expert Michael E. Mann, who is director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State and has contributed to the scientific understanding of historic climate change. He is frequently a guest on national news programs and was most recently interviewed on CNN, NPR, Newsweek, and the Washington Post. He received the 2019 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement. Mann also serves on the board of directors for PennFuture. Ballard, a Republican who served as the 48th mayor of Indianapolis from 2008 to 2016, created the city's first Office of Sustainability. His community-wide plan focused on taking local action to be more environmentally conscious. Under his leadership, Indianapolis became the first major city in the U.S. to commit to the conversion of its entire municipal non-police fleet to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. PennFuture anticipates an engaging discussion that will appeal to a wide audience interested in environmental issues, regardless of political affiliation. The event will be held at the Civic Club of Harrisburg, 612 North Front Street, starting at 5:30. Tickets are $65 and include dinner and drinks. Books will also be on sale at the event.
