Chester County Ready For 100 Will Host Clean Energy Tour In Chester County Oct. 19; Find Similar Events Near You

Chester County Ready For 100 and its partners will host the Chester County Clean Energy Tour on October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to give the public the opportunity to see working solar energy installations in the county in a variety of settings.

24 Open Houses will be part of the tour at schools, universities, businesses, farms, nonprofits, municipalities and homes in self-guided tours in four areas across the county.

Kick off events will provide an orientation, tour map and suggested route. The homes, businesses, farms, schools and public places you visit will demonstrate green technologies such as solar, wind, geothermal, green design, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and more.

Come to one of 4 kick off locations:

-- Southern Tour: Romeade Farm/McKinstry Veteranarian, 548/550 School House Rd. Kennett Square. NOTE: 10:00 a.m. and to 1:00 p.m. only. Please respect hosts by arriving for your last site visit by 12:45. Enjoy a beautiful fall ride through some of Chester County’s most beautiful areas and learn about clean energy options. Southern Chester County area sites also include a family farm, a mushroom farm, Longwood Gardens, a municipal building and homes - one of which includes a demo by PECO of an energy audit and a blower door test! Stop by environmental leader, Victory Brewing in Parkesburg, for lunch before joining another afternoon tour if you like.

All other tour sites open in the morning after 10:00 am through 4:00 pm.

-- Eastern Tour: Wayne Central Baptist Church 106 W Lancaster Ave, Wayne,  19087. The church set a goal of being 100 percent carbon neutral. They installed 48 solar panels in 2009 on a south-facing flat roof. Eastern tour also includes other inspiring examples of local businesses, a local athletic facility, homes and a public school.

-- Northern Tour: Camphill Village Kimberton Hills 1601 Pughtown Rd, Phoenixville,  19460. Enjoy picturesque farm land, learn about safe, renewable energy options, "Passive" house design and grab brunch or lunch at the Camphill Café. Other sites include a small business, the West Vincent Sustainability Fair, a local school, and local homes.

-- Central Tour: 1019 Ashley Rd West Chester 19382. The Central Chester County loop includes a municipal building, "Passive" house designs, outstanding University facilities (afternoon only) and local family homes. The tour spans the Greater West Chester and Downingtown areas. Grab lunch at Downingtown’s Solarized Victory Brewing or sample wines at Stargazers Vineyard (on the tour).

Learn how your home, workplace, local schools and municipal facilities can be part of the transition to cleaner, safer renewable energy.

End the day with at a social hour at Victory Brewing in Downingtown at 4:30 - 420 Acorn Ln, Downingtown, PA 19335.

The Tour is endorsed by all three Chester County Commissioners, the Chester County Planning Commission, Senators Andrew Dinniman (D) and Tom Killion (R), Representatives Christina Sappey, (D), Carolyn Comitta (D), Melissa Shusterman (D),  East Pikeland Township, PennEnvironment, Citizens Climate Lobby, Physicians for Social Responsibility, West Chester Area Green Team, Stroud Water Research Center, Uwchlan Township,The Phoenixville Green Team, and the West Vincent, Uwchlan and Tredyffrin environmental advisory councils.

The tour is organized by Chester County Ready for 100, a project of the local Sierra Club. 

In Chester County, 9 communities have passed resolutions to transition to renewable electricity by 2035 and for all purposes by 2050, including--: Phoenixville, West Chester and Downingtown Boroughs along with Kennett, East Bradford, Charlestown, Schuylkill, East Pikeland, Tredyffrin and Uwchlan Townships.
