The House Democratic Policy Committee will hold a hearing November 1 on climate change and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative at the Haverford Township Administration Building, 1014 Darby Road in Havertown, Delaware County starting at 10:00 a.m.

On October 3, Gov. Wolf signed an executive order directing DEP to join the interstate RGGI program.

“Pennsylvania is a major greenhouse gas emitter and joining RGGI would be perhaps the most important thing that the Commonwealth could do to curb its emissions,” said Rep. Vitali, Minority Chair of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, host of the hearing.

Individuals expected to provide comments, include--

-- Patrick McDonnell, Secretary, Department of Environmental Protection;

-- Franz Litz, principal, Litz Energy Strategies, LLC;

-- Chris Hoaglend, program manager, Maryland Department of Environment;

-- M. Gary Helm, lead market strategist, PJM Interconnection;

-- John Hanger, president, Hanger Consulting, LLC;

-- Mark Szybist, senior attorney, Climate & Clean Energy Program, Natural Resources Defense Council;

-- Tanya McCloskey, Acting Consumer Advocate, PUC Office of Consumer Advocate; and

-- Andrew Williams, director, Regulatory & Legislative Affairs, Environmental Defense Fund.

Representatives from the natural gas industry and the coal industry also have been invited.

Questions should be directed to Sarah Iversen in Rep. Vitali’s district office at 610-789-3900.

Rep. Mike Sturla (R-Lancaster) serves as Chair of the House Democratic Policy Committee.
