Take DEP Survey To Help Shape 2021 PA Climate Action Plan

The Department of Environmental Protection is inviting the public to provide input to help inform the development of the 2021 PA Climate Action Plan by taking an online survey.

The 2018 PA Climate Action Plan included over 100 actions the state, businesses and citizens can take to address climate change.

Just 15 of those actions, such as increasing renewable energy, incentivizing energy efficient buildings, and increasing the use of electric vehicles, would reduce emissions 21 percent by 2025.

DEP also had an Energy Assessment Report for Pennsylvania prepared that informed the development of the 2018 Plan.

DEP, the Climate Change Advisory Committee and the consultant hired by DEP to help develop the 2021 Plan are at the beginning stages of outlining the next Plan.

In March, DEP previewed a new Climate Impact Assessment with the Climate Change Advisory Committee that predicted more extreme precipitation resulting in more property and infrastructure damage from flooding and stormwater and more challenges in meeting water quality cleanup goals.

In addition, a new Southeast Coastal Impact Assessment also looked specifically at the issue of how flooding, stormwater and sea level rise will impact the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Estuary.

As part of the new information being gathered for the 2021 Plan, DEP is soliciting comments from the public on key elements and priorities that should be included.
