Virtual Resources For Bike Riding Available; Take Survey On Biking In Northwest PA
PennDOT and the departments of Environmental Protection, Health and Conservation and Natural Resources have come together to share biking resources and encourage you to ride responsibly:
PennDOT has a wealth of information on cycling, including an Active Transportation Plan that outlines a vision and framework for improving conditions for walking and bicycling across Pennsylvania.
DCNR invites you to get outdoors and explore trail biking, while DEP encourages cycling as an emission-free mode of transportation.
DOH recognizes the importance of incorporating physical activity into your day. Bike riding can help maintain weight, improve mental health, and reduce the risk of various chronic diseases.
Both DCNR and DOH remind cyclists to continue practicing social distancing when cycling.
While not affiliated with state agencies, Bike Pittsburgh, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, and Bicycle South Central PA regularly share resources for cyclists. Additionally, the League of American Bicyclists is sharing these smart cycling tips.
With so many great reasons and resources, now may be the perfect time to get on your bike and ride!
Help Better Biking Conditions in Northwest PA
Do you have suggestions on how to better bicycling conditions in northwestern Pennsylvania? PennDOT wants to hear from you!
PennDOT District 1 is working to improve conditions for bicycling in the counties of Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren.
A project team is conducting a bicycle study to determine which state roads are regularly used for bicycling and how maintenance activities could better support bicycle use.
The public is invited to view a draft of PennDOT’s bicycle network, review suggested changes, and complete a brief survey at PennDOT’s website by Monday, June 8.
The results of the survey will be used to determine where and how to adjust PennDOT District 1’s maintenance efforts.
