Mariner East Pipeline Can Resume Construction In Chester County Under Temporary Supercedeas Granted By Environmental Hearing Board

Sunoco can resume construction of the Mariner East Pipeline in Chester County after the Environmental Hearing Board granted the company a temporary supersedeas.

Sunoco appealed an August 20 notice of violation and shutdown order after a leak of approximately 8,100 gallons of drilling fluid contaminated Marsh Creek Lake in Marsh Creek State Park in Upper Uwchlan township, Chester County.  Read more here.

The Board has scheduled a hearing on whether or not to grant a full supercedeas on September 1.

The Board reminded Sunoco “If at any point Sunoco’s drilling results in new or increased environmental harm or presents issues of health and safety, Sunoco or the Department may notify the Board and the temporary supersedeas may be reconsidered accordingly.”

The Hearing Board is also considering whether to grant the request of West Whiteland Township in Chester County to intervene in the case.
