Joint Conservation Committee Hearing On State Park, Forest Friends Groups Sept. 15

On September 15, the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee will hold a hearing on the contributions and challenges of Friends Groups as they work in Pennsylvania’s State Parks and Forests.

Testifiers include Marci Mowery, President of the Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation and Andre Weltman, Chairman of the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace State Park.

Friends groups have formed for over 40 State Parks and Forest across the state. Friends are people who volunteer their time, services and support to our State Parks and Forests.

Chapters form for a variety of reasons but all understand the value of their state park or forest and share a common goal to make that park or forest the best in the Commonwealth.

Every year friends groups provide tens of thousands of volunteer hours working to improve and enhance state parks and forests. Friends groups connect people to the natural places of Pennsylvania while enhancing the role of public lands in local communities.

The hearing will be held in Room G-50 of the Irvis Building starting at 8:30 a.m.  For Virtual Access Information: please contact Sakura Ung at: sung@jcc.legis.state.pa.us.

Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) serves as Chair of the Joint Conservation Committee.
