PA Recreation & Parks Society: Funding For Parks, Trails & Conservation Available Thru County Federal COVID-19 Funds

On August 28, the PA Recreation and Parks Society posted a notice on its Facebook page funding for parks, trails and conservation projects is available through counties receiving federal  CARES funding designed to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

PRPS posted a detailed explanation of how these funds could be accessed by Silas Chamberlin, Ph.D.

Counties with 500,000 or more residents received a direct allocation from the federal government.  The remaining counties received federal funds via DCED’s COVID 19 County Relief Block Grant Program.

CARES Act funds are subject to a number of restrictions on their use, but County Commissioners have significant discretion in how and to whom the funds are disbursed.

All CARES Act funds must be allocated and expended by the end of 2020 for expenses incurred between May 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
