Local Community Climate Action Planning Forums Kick-off Oct. 20 With Local Governance In Cumberland County

Changing climate has caused and will continue to cause impacts to public health, infrastructure, emergency services, and major economic contributors like agriculture, tourism, and recreation.

Beginning October 20, a series of virtual community forums on local Climate Action Planning will be hosted through 2021 by the South Mountain Partnership, community groups and agencies in the Cumberland Valley.

The forums will review what is already being done about changing climate, and how citizens, municipalities, and related organizations can get involved to expand and accelerate efforts.

The first event, coordinated by Cumberland County Planning Department, will be held virtually on October 20 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and will include expert presentations and a question and answer session.

The purpose of these forums is to learn more about the role and importance of local government, climate action planning programs available in Pennsylvania such as the Local Climate Action Program through the Department of Environmental Protection, and Cumberland County’s commitment to climate change mitigation.

Two additional events are planned for December 2020 and February 2021.

All attendees must register for the virtual event. Logon instructions for the webinar will be emailed prior to the event.

The Climate Action Series is a partnership between the Cumberland Conservation Collaborative, the South Mountain Partnership, Cumberland County Planning Department, the Center for Land Use and Sustainability at Shippensburg University, and the Center for Sustainability at Dickinson College, and Carlisle Borough.
