PA Resources Council April Schedule Of Glass Recycling Collection Events In Allegheny, Mercer Counties

The Pennsylvania Resources Council Traveling Glass Recycling Program – which serves residents living in municipalities no longer accepting glass in curbside recycling collection – provides a free recycling service to residents that rotates through a variety of locations in western Pennsylvania.

PRC Traveling Glass Recycling Bin’s weeklong engagements in April 2021:

-- April 3 – April 8: CITY OF HERMITAGE FIRE STATION #3 (Mercer County) 541 Mercer Ave. (across from Morefield Cemetery at the intersection of Rt. 418 and Maple Dr.), Hermitage, PA 16148. hosted by City of Hermitage

-- April 10 – 15:  MOON TOWNSHIP PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY (Allegheny County) special hours at this site: Sat/Sun 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Mon – Thurs 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 1115 Stevenson Mill Rd., Coraopolis, PA 15108. hosted by Moon Township

Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required).  Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on.  Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.

“The bin visits various locations on a weekly basis from Saturday through Thursday, typically from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and provides residents with a safe method for recycling glass while eliminating the need to interact with other individuals or touch shared surfaces,” according to PRC Recycling Markets Program Manager Ashley DiGregorio.

“We owe a great debt of gratitude to sponsors and municipalities for making this vital service available in a growing number of communities,” said DiGregorio.  “Changes to the industry will likely cause most municipalities in western Pennsylvania to lose some or all glass pickup services with the next few years, although 90 percent of consumers believe glass recycling is important and the market demand for recycled glass remains high.”

Last year, PRC’s glass recycling program enabled 15,000+ households in western Pennsylvania to drop of 540,000 pounds of bottles, jars and jugs for recycling.

PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program is sponsored by Owens-Illinois, Inc., CAP Glass and Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling.
