The Independence Conservancy will hold community tire collections events in Allegheny County on April 24 and in Beaver County on May 8.

Both collections are held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 12 Noon--

-- April 24 - Allegheny County: Findlay Township Public Works Department, 1058 Clinton Rd., Clinton, PA 15126

-- May 8 - Beaver County: New Sewickley Township Municipal Building, 233 Miller Rd., Rochester, PA 15074

Individuals and small businesses are welcome. No proof of residency is required, and there is no limit to the number of tires or wheels any one person may bring. Guests are asked to please remain in their cars and practice social distancing.

Disposal fees for auto and light truck tires up to 18” off rim are $3 each; $5 if on rim. SUV and light truck tires 19” through 22” off rim are $5 each.

Tractor trailer tires up to 22.5” are $20 each. Farm tractor rear tires up to 75 lbs. are $20 each; up to 150 lbs. are $40 each; and over 150 lbs. are $75 each. No rims, please, on the tractor trailer or farm tires.

Community tire collections are offered as a public service to provide convenient, affordable disposal of scrap tires, thus reducing the risk of West Nile, Zika and other diseases by eliminating stagnant water where mosquitoes breed.

Since 2004, over 56,000 tires and wheels have been properly disposed through this program.

For more information on programs, initiatives, other upcoming events and how you can get involved, visit the Independence Conservancy website.  The Conservancy is an environmental stewardship organization active in Beaver, Washington and Allegheny Counties.
