DEP Public Water System Advisory Committee Meets July 29 On Pre-Draft PFOA/PFOS MCL Rule

DEP’s Public Water System Technical Assistance Center Board is scheduled to meet July 29 on a pre-draft regulation setting a Maximum Contaminant Level and MCL Goals for PFOA/PFOS ‘forever’ chemicals.

DEP is recommending setting a Maximum Contaminant Level and MCL Goals for PFOA/PFOS chemicals, but not for other PFAS chemicals at this time due to lack of occurrence data, incomplete cost/benefit data, the lack of a reference dose and the lack of treatability data.

DEP is recommending a Maximum Contaminant Level of 14 ppt for PFOA and a Maximum Contaminant Level Goal of 8 ppt.

DEP recommends a Maximum Contaminant Level of 18 ppt for PFOS and a Maximum Contaminant Level Goal of 14 ppt.

EPA’s current health advisory is 70 ppt for PFOA and PFOS in drinking water.

DEP’s presentation to the Board includes a comprehensive review of the steps the agency and the Wolf Administration have taken to test for and deal with contamination from the PFAS family of chemicals.

The Board meeting will be held in Room 105 Rachel Carson Building starting at 9:00 a.m.  It will also be available online through Microsoft Teams or by conference call.  Click Here for instructions on joining.
