PA Resources Council: Pop-Up E-Waste Collection Events In Allegheny County During October

The PA Resources Council will hold pop-up  electronics waste collection events at two locations in Allegheny County during October.

Through the generous support of Sustainable Sewickley, PRC will conduct pop-up e-waste collection events on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October at Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling locations in North Hills (Reserve Township) and South Hills (Baldwin Borough).

“The response to our spring weekday disposal opportunity was impressive and certainly reinforced the notion that people truly want to responsibly dispose of electronics,” according to PRC Recycling Operations Specialist Josh Schuneman.  “We processed 20,452 pounds of TVs, computers and other electronics collected in just 32 hours, that’s more than 600 pounds of electronics dropped off per hour of operation.”

All individuals attending a weekday collection in October will pay a $5 participant fee, which will cover the cost of disposing cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.) and video game consoles/DVD players.

For an additional fee, individuals can drop off televisions, computer monitors and printers.

Participants must register in advance online or by calling 412-488-7490×1.

“In addition to the advance registration process, PRC is integrating on-site procedures to reduce the number of interactions occurring between event participants and staff to promote safety,” according to Schuneman.  “To streamline the process at our events, we ask participants to place all materials in their car trunks or truck beds and then stay in their vehicles while the contractor unloads the materials.”

The 2021 PRC pop-up e-waste collection campaign in Allegheny County is sponsored by Sustainable Sewickley, Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling and eLoop LLC.
