PA Interfaith Power & Light, Jewish Earth Alliance Host Oct. 20 Webinar On Federal Build Back Better Proposal

The PA Interfaith Power & Light and the Jewish Earth Alliance will host an October 20 webinar on the federal Build Back Better Proposal starting at 6:00 p.m.

The Build Back Better Agenda is an ambitious plan to create jobs, cut taxes, and lower costs for working families – all paid for by making the tax code fairer and making the wealthiest and large corporations pay their fair share.

Specifically, the proposal would eliminate 13 tax breaks for fossil fuels, including the Intangible Drilling Costs Deduction, which encourages companies to drill more new wells than they otherwise would, exemptions for tar sands from the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund (OSTLF) Excise Tax, and exemption from the Corporate Income Tax for Fossil Fuel Publicly Traded Partnerships.

Estimates for the amount of US fossil fuel subsidies range from $20 billion in direct subsidies to  $649 billion when the true costs of climate and pollution impacts  are included – that’s $2,028 for every person in the US.

Emily Wirzba, Manager of Government Relations of the Environmental Defense Action Fund, will be the main speaker for this special event.
