The PA Solar Center is hosting a February 11 webinar on Agrivoltaics and Dual-Use Solar Applications from Noon to 1:15 p.m.

Agrivoltaics, or dual-use solar, is a fast-growing field that co-locates energy generation, food production, farming and other activities on the same land.

This innovative approach presents opportunities to save Pennsylvania’s family farms by supporting crop production, pollinator habitats, and pasture grasses for grazers.

However, agrivoltaic projects are complex and require more advanced planning and coordination with multiple stakeholders as well as market incentives that enable solar developers, farmers, and landowners to maximize these dual-use benefits.

Our speakers will discuss the many benefits and potential barriers of agrivoltaics in Pennsylvania.

We will hear from a shepherd who is grazing sheep at a Pennsylvania university solar site, as well as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s InSPIRE program that is researching agrivoltaics throughout the country.

We’ll also hear from Pennsylvania's Department of Agriculture and a solar developer who is incorporating agrivoltaics and dual-use into their projects.

The speakers include--

-- Jordan Macknick, Lead Energy-Water-Land Analyst, InSPIRE program, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)

-- Michael Roth, Policy Director, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture

-- Caroline Owens, Solar Grazer, Owens Family Farm; Advisory Board Member American Solar Grazing Association

-- Drew Pierson, Head of Sustainability, BlueWave Solar

-- Matt Mahoney, Director of Government Affairs, PA Solar Center

-- Sharon Pillar, Executive Director, PA Solar Center
