The PA Solar Center and Generation180 will host an August 19 webinar on A Brighter Future - Solar Energy for PA Schools from Noon to 1:15 p.m.

In the last two years, school districts across the state have doubled down on solar energy to balance the budget, save millions in long-term energy costs and avoid costly energy cost spikes.  [Read more here.]

Solar is providing Pennsylvania schools with an array of opportunities as demonstrated by 100+ schools in Pennsylvania that are supplying up to 100% of their electricity with solar while integrating solar technology into STEM and career education.

Please join the Pennsylvania Solar Center as we explore Generation180’s May 2022 report on Solar for All Schools in Pennsylvania, where we’ll share important information to help PA schools access the benefits of solar.

Shannon Crooker, Pennsylvania Director, Generation180, will join us to discuss how Pennsylvania schools can reduce energy bills, enhance STEM education, support local workforce development, and contribute to building healthier communities.

We’ll also be joined by Mick Iskric, Superintendent of Steelton-Highspire School District, who will share their district’s solar story, which includes a 1.6 megawatt (MW) solar array over an abandoned landfill that provides 100% of their district’s electricity.

Also, former Superintendent of Midd-West School District and current Education Market Specialist from GreenWorks Development, Rick Musselman, will discuss how Midd-West School District installed the largest solar system (2.54 MW) in Pennsylvania and their plans to expand the project to start generating revenue for the district.

We’ll also learn about educational programs and projects that teach students about energy, weather, and the environment.

Eitan Anouchi, President of AYA Instruments will join us to share how they’re supporting Pennsylvania school districts and to showcase their Energy Discovery Zone and Solar Power Station at Fort Cherry School District equipped with a weather station, solar panels, vertical and shade gardens, self-watering system, ant farm, and mural wall where students, educators and administrators can relax and learn.

The Pennsylvania Solar Center and Generation 180 will also feature its G.E.T. Solar for Schools program that offers Pennsylvania K-12 schools free technical assistance for going solar with no upfront costs.

This collaboration will enable more schools to begin saving money on energy bills and access solar technology that can be used for career and technical education (CTE) and STEM learning.
