Susquehanna River Basin Commission Meets Dec. 15 On Water Withdrawal Requests, Including 3 Oil & Gas, Three Mile Island Withdrawal Renewals

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission is scheduled to hold its next business meeting on December 15 to consider water withdrawal requests.  (formal notice)

The agenda include actions or presentations on the following items: (1) adoption of the regulatory program fee schedule for Calendar Year 2023; (2) adoption of a resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act; (3) approval of contracts, grants and agreements; and (4) actions on 13 regulatory program projects.

Water Withdrawal Projects

The specific list of water projects to be considered is the same list of projects that were the subject of a November 3 public hearing by the Commission.

Among the projects are three proposed water withdrawals related to oil and gas development and one related to the former Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant--

-- Lycoming County: Project Sponsor and Facility: SWN Production Company, LLC (Lycoming Creek), Lewis Township, Lycoming County, Pa. Application for renewal of surface water withdrawal of up to 0.500 mgd (peak day) (Docket No. 20171208).

-- Lycoming County: Project Sponsor and Facility: SWN Production Company, LLC (Lycoming Creek), McIntyre Township, Lycoming County, Pa. Application for renewal of surface water withdrawal of up to 0.500 mgd (peak day) (Docket No. 20171209).

-- Susquehanna County: Project Sponsor and Facility: Repsol Oil & Gas USA, LLC (Choconut Creek), Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pa. Application for renewal of surface water withdrawal of up to 0.999 mgd (peak day) (Docket No. 20171206).

-- Dauphin County: Project Sponsor: Constellation Energy Generation, LLC. Project Facility: Three Mile Island Generating Station, Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pa. Applications for renewal of groundwater withdrawals (30-day averages) of up to 0.099 mgd from Well A, 0.099 mgd from Well B, and 0.099 mgd from Well C (Docket No. 20110610), and Commission-initiated modification of surface water and consumptive use approvals based on changes in operating status of the project and revised demand projections.
